Who We Are

What is the busy project?

The BUSY Project has been doing youth work in the Uphall and Broxburn area of West-Lothian since 2005. We offer a whole range of events and activities for young people between the ages of 10 and 21.

The Project is owned by the local community, and run by a team of volunteers some of whom form our Management Group. The BUSY Project is funded by the local community and local churches.

The BUSY Project aims to help every child:

Build community

The BUSY Project aims to provide a safe and inclusive place where teenagers can be playful, serious, and honest about who they are and where they are at. They make new friends, hear one another’s stories, and gain a sense of belonging. We see young people retain this community into adulthood and come back to serve others. It is one of our great joys.

Interact with wider community through Volunteers

The project consists of a group of enthusiastic and able volunteers working alongside our Youth Worker. These volunteers come from the local community and churches. We believe that young people benefit from role-models, so we are thrilled that our groups offer young people an opportunity to build relationships across the community.
Whether it is leading a session, serving in the background, or supporting the project financially, volunteers are the BUSY Project.

Our activities are staffed and funded by the efforts of local Christians.
We believe that connecting with the local Christian community offers young people a unique opportunity to belong, and a safe place to grow and develop, and explore the relevance and credibility of Jesus.

Develop Potential

We believe that every young person has potential; and every week we help young people realise their abilities and strengths. Our group work program is designed to help them grow in confidence and self-esteem.
The project works with young people from all walks of life, with a specific emphasis on vulnerable and disadvantaged young people.

Ask big questions about the world and life

Our hope is that young people feel safe enough to ask their big questions about life, the world, and themselves. Having somewhere to voice your thoughts is vital as they grow up in this changing world. So there is no question too deep, or too simple for us to explore together.

Explore the significance of Jesus

Jesus ‘I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.’ (John 10:10)
It is this fullness of life that we aspire to see in the lives of young people. We pray that God’s boundless love would enliven and secure them through life’s journey.
Because of this, we often look at stories from the Bible and pray together.
All of our activities are open to young people of any faith, or of none, all of our discussions are on an opt-in basis. We welcome young people of all opinions and experiences, working on an assumption of mutual respect.
